Sifnos Island is a lovely island with interior hills and consists of seven settlements. Sifnos was a very wealthy settlement in ancient times due to its silver and gold mines. The imposing landscapes, the picturesque settlements like Apollonia, Kamares and Artemonas, the beautiful beaches, the medieval villages, the old monasteries like Chrysopigi makes Sifnos a very popular Aegean Cruising destination. The fascinating little island of Tinos is swamped by pilgrims who come to pray in the church of Evangelistria. Tsiknias mountain ranges run along the island and on the lower slopes of the mountain ranges, old castle walls divide the terraced fields. The coast is mostly step but you are sure to find numerous inlets, coves with sandy or pebbly beaches where the waters are crystalline, the scenery enchanting and the atmosphere serene. The interior of the island has been little affected by tourism, and the 45 villages have retained much of their traditional character and distinctive architecture. |
